Description
The State Industrial Technical Institute “E. Mattei” began its activities in Vasto in the 1962-63 school year as a branch of the “Luigi Savoia” in Chieti, at the “Domus Pacis” made available by Don Felice Piccirilli. In its second year the school was transferred to Vasto Marina.
After the establishment of the first specialization, mechanics, the chemistry specialization course followed. In the 1966-’67 school year, the electrical engineering course is opened. The institute grows more and more (the number of teachers far exceeds 100 and the number of pupils approaches 1,000), so much so that it requires the construction of a new headquarters, located in Vasto, on San Rocco Street, a location that is inaugurated in the 1982-83 school year.
The larger headquarters gives the opportunity to open, in the 1984-’85 school year, the graduate course in computer science. For the 1995-’96 school year, the Ministry of Public Education authorizes the establishment of a new, experimental (Project Brocca) five-year course of study: the Liceo Scientifico Tecnologico, which allows students to obtain a baccalaureate in science and is aimed at students who are already clearly oriented toward university and graduate studies.
In the 1997-’98 school year, the premises were expanded with a new wing that enriched the institution with 12 classrooms, 3 large laboratories, a lecture hall with more than 300 seats and a new library.
With the expansion and the branch, all students are housed in a single, modern and functional facility.
